That’s right, it’s time to talk about whether, as a vegan, you can have any of the shakes at Shack Shake. Cross-Contamination

As is always the case at all non-exclusively vegan restaurants, there is always the chance of cross-contamination. I will leave this to your discretion as to whether this is something you are comfortable with or not.

Sugar

Also, some items contain sugar – the source of the sugar has not been verified as to whether it has been processed with bone char or not. I will leave that to your discretion as to whether this is something you are comfortable with or not.

15 Best Vegan Drinks at Shake Shack

In this section, I will go through my picks for the 15 best vegan drinks at Shake Shack. So, let’s dig in, what are the best vegan drinks at Shake Shack?

1. Non-Dairy Shake

Okay, let’s start with one of the most exciting vegan drinks on this list. A vegan chocolate shake.

Yes, you read that correctly – Shake Shack has a vegan shake. The bad news? It is only available in select Shake Shack locations on the East Coast – namely Garden Mall, Miami Beach, Winter Park, The Fall Carol Gables, Astor Place, Harlem, Midtown East, Upper East Side, and Battery Park City.

So, if you are lucky enough to find yourself in one of these locations you must try the vegan shake.  “Chocolatey, creamy, plant-based, non-dairy frozen custard powered by NotCo hand spun with NotMilk”.

2. ShackMade Lemonade

If you are comfortable consuming cane sugar, then the shack lemonade at Shake Shack could be a drink for you.

The lemonade at Shake Shack is made in-house from “real juice and real cane sugar“.

The thing with cane sugar is that here in the US cane sugar can often be processed with charred animal bones to give the “white” appearance. No bone char is left in the sugar, but the animal bones have been used in the processing.

Now the tricky thing is that it is usually very hard to know if sugar has been processed with bone char or not (unless it is marked as raw or organic). For this reason, some vegans are fine with consuming sugar as you don’t know that it necessarily isn’t vegan, and it is so hard to trace the origin of sugar.

Stricter vegans are not comfortable with this.

The lemonade is marked as vegetarian on Shake Shack’s allergen statement (there is no vegan category, however). I will leave it to your discretion as to whether the cane sugar is something you are comfortable with or not.

If not, this is going to rule out all the lemonades and “Fifty/Fifty” style drinks below for you – I would recommend the unsweetened organic tea if you want to avoid cane sugar.

3. Organic Iced Tea

Iced tea is an amazing vegan drink. The main non-vegan ingredient you need to watch out for with iced tea in some restaurants is honey – you can read more about it in the post I wrote about whether tea is always vegan: Is Tea Vegan? Time To Know The Complete Truth.

The unsweetened organic iced tea at Shake Shack is the best option – especially if you try not to consume any sugar that could have been processed with bone char. The iced tea at Shake Shack is Harney & Sons iced tea which is brewed fresh daily.

4. Fifty/Fifty

If an Arnold Palmer style drink is your thing (or if you just can’t decide between lemonade and iced tea) then it’s great to know that Shame Shack has their own “50/50” drink on the menu – half lemonade and half iced tea.

5. Yuzu Orange Cider

Next up – the yuzu orange cider. This delectable drink is made from “real yuzu, orange, and apple juice with cinnamon and ginger” mixed in-house with Shake Shack’s lemonade.

We have already looked at the lemonade but in terms of the yuzu part – yuzu, orange, apple, cinnamon, and ginger are all vegan.

Believe it or not, orange juice isn’t always vegan – but this just tends to impact commercially bottled fortified orange juice (which is sometimes fortified with fish oil or vitamin D3). It is extremely unlikely fortified orange juice is being used in the drink and the yuzu orange cider is listed as vegetarian on Shake Shack’s allergen chart.

This means it looks like this delectable-sounding yuzu orange cider is vegan. If you would, however, like to read more about why orange juice isn’t always vegan you can read the post I wrote about it here – Is Orange Juice Vegan? Revealing What You Need To Know.

6. Fifty/Fifty Yuzu Orange Cider

If you like the sound of the above yuzu orange cider but want the sweetness toned down with some iced tea (or fancy some caffeine in your drink) then opt for the fifty/fifty yuzu orange cider.

7. Concord Grape Punch

The Concord grape punch at Shake Shack is made from real concord grape juice with rosemary and ginger mixed in-house with their lemonade. So, if a very herbal drink is your kind of thing, then definitely try this drink.

8. Fifty/Fifty Concord Grape Punch

Again, if you fancy your Concord grape punch with some tea vibes go for the fifty/fifty version.

9. Harvest Berry Lemonade

The final lemonade on this list is the Harvest Berry Lemonade. This lemonade is made from “tart Aronia berry juice, real orange and bergamot citrus with cinnamon” mixed in-house with their lemonade.

10. Fifty/Fifty Harvest Berry Lemonade

If you want your harvest Berry lemonade with a caffeine hit then opt for the fifty/fifty version.

11. Shack20 Water

Next up – the OG vegan drink. Still water. Often overlooked but pretty much the healthiest vegan drink you can get. Pretty cool that it comes in Shake Shack branded bottles (aka Shake20 bottles).

12. Shack20 Sparkling Water

If you prefer your water sparking, then Shake Shack also has branded bottles of sparkling water.

13. Organic Apple Juice Drink

Next up – the perfect vegan drink at Shake Shack for a little one (or just an adult who wants some juice) – Honest organic apple juice drink.

14. Fountain Soda

If you want a good ol’ soda to wash your fries down with then Shake Shack has a wide selection of fountain sodas to choose from Pepsi to Coke to Sprite to Dr. Pepper to name a few. Did to know that most but not all sodas are vegan? You can read more about it in the posts I wrote about it here:

15. Draft Root Beer

Did you know that most root beer is vegan? You can read more about it in the post I wrote about it here – Is Root Beer Vegan? The Surprising Hidden Root Cause.

The draft root beer at Shake Shack is made of “real Louisiana cane sugar“. So long as you are okay drinking cane sugar, the draft Root beer could be a good drink option for you at Shake Shack.

15 Best Vegan Drinks at Shake Shack – The Final Sip

Best vegan drinks at Shake Shack. When it comes to vegan options at Shake Shack you will have to focus on the drinks. Why? Well, because the only vegan food option available at Shack Shake is a portion of fries. As for the drinks, the good news is that certain Shake Shack locations have a vegan chocolate shake and some even have a vegan chocolate custard. However, before you go running to a Shake Shack for these two vegan items alone – just make sure it is one of the selected locations near you that has these options. If it is, then that would be a good enough reason to visit Shake Shack as a vegan.
