10 Things To Know About Propel Water

Propel Water – in today’s post, I am going to be talking about Propel Water. Originally produced by the Gatorade company, Propel is a “sports water” that contains electrolytes. Sports drinks are becoming increasingly popular. If you read my post on Gatorade Zero (see Revealing 10 Things Vegans Need To Know About Gatorade Zero), you will know that Gatorade is one of the most popular drinks in America. But, what about when it comes to water and specifically Propel Water? What is Propel Water, is it good for you, and most importantly is it Vegan? In this post, I am going to be answering 10 things you need to know specifically about Propel Water.

What is Propel Water?

To start, I should answer the most obvious question “what is Propel Water?”.

Propel is flavored non-carbonated water that contains added electrolytes, vitamin B, and antioxidant vitamins C and E. The Gatorade company launched Propel in 2002. Gatorade is owned by PepsiCo.

Propel was created for people who want “a lightly flavored hydration option with added vitamins but no artificial colors”. If you are interested in Gatorade or PepsiCo drinks in general I have already written a whole post on Gatorade Zero as well as a whole post on PepsiCo.

Propel is positioned as an electrolyte water drink. Given that it also contains added vitamins and antioxidants it can also be considered a vitamin drink or vitamin water. If you would like to try Propel water you can via Amazon here.

If you wanted to learn more about Vitamin Waters and/or Energy Drinks and whether they are vegan I cover both topics in two separate posts which you can find here:

Now we know what Propel is let’s go into the 10 things you need to know about Propel.

3. Is Propel Just Flavored Water?

Propel is more than just flavored water – it contains added electrolytes, vitamin B and antioxidants vitamins C and E. These electrolytes help to hydrate after exercise and replace electrolytes lost during sweating.

Plain flavored water hydrates but does not tend to contain electrolytes or vitamins.

4. Does Propel Have Electrolytes

Propel does contain electrolytes – there are 270mg of sodium and 70mg of potassium per bottle of Propel.

5. Does Propel Water Hydrate You?

Propel hydrates after exercise due to the added electrolytes such as sodium and potassium. When you exercise you sweat out electrolytes and so propel can replace these electrolytes.

6. Does Propel Have Sugar?

Propel does not contain sugar. Propel contains 0g of sugar.

7. What Sweetener is Used in Propel?

Sucralose and Acesulfame Potassium are the two artificial sweeteners used in Propel. These are the two same sweeteners used in Gatorade Zero as well. Both present no vegan issues.

8. Does Propel have caffeine?

There is no caffeine in Propel water.

9. Is Propel Vegan?

Propel is listed on PETAs list of vegan beverages.

If you would like to read more about what other sports drinks are vegan, you can here.

10. What’s Better Gatorade or Propel

Propel doesn’t contain any artificial colors – in comparison, most Gatorade flavors contain artificial colors

Gatorade regularly contains sugar and is an electrolyte drink. Propel in comparison is sweetened with artificial sweeteners and is an electrolyte and vitamin water.

If you want a sugar-free vitamin and electrolyte water that does not contain artificial colors then Propel is a better option for you than Gatorade – if this is what you are looking for you can purchase Propel on Amazon here. If, however, you want electrolyte water that also helps to raise blood sugar levels after exercise then Gatorade is probably the better option for you.
