10 Vegan Tequila Brands – Vegan Tequila Brands You Need To Know

Vegan Tequila Brands – in this post I am going to be talking to you about 10 of my favorite vegan tequila brands. In my previous post, I talked about everything you need to know about Tequila – what it is made of, how it is made, and a breakdown of what brands are vegan, and which are not. You can read that here – Is Tequila Vegan? How To Really Pick Vegan Tequila. In this piece, I want to share with you 10 vegan Tequilas which you can easily pick and find in your local grocery and liquor stores. So, sit back and get ready that lime, and salt ready because it is Tequila Time.

Vegan Tequila Brands – Which Tequila is Vegan?

As a general rule most tequilas are vegan including Blanco, Reposado, and Anejo varieties of tequila. The best vegan tequila brands include Casamigos, Teremana, Ghost, Jose Cuervo, El Jimador, Milagro, 1800, Espolon, Patron, and Exotico.

Is All Tequila Vegan?

Almost all tequila is vegan. Here at Vegan Bev HQ, I have written posts on the vegan status of the six main types of liquor (vodka, tequila, brandy, gin, whiskey, and rum). Out of all six liquors, tequila has the fewest non-vegan varieties. GO TEQUILA. In fact, a rough and ready calculation of vegan vs non-vegan tequilas on Barnivore shows 96% as vegan vs 4% as not vegan.

What Tequila is Not Vegan?

The main non-vegan tequilas are cream tequilas which contain dairy, as well as the occasional tequila brand such as Tres Agaves which states that their tequilas are not vegan.

I have already written a post on whether tequila is vegan (SPOLIER ALTER – if you want to learn if Tequila contains a worm you will have to read that post). As I mentioned, you can learn more about Tequila in general and whether it is vegan or not in the post here: Is Tequila Vegan? How To Really Pick Vegan Tequila.

In this post, I am going to present you with 10 awesome vegan tequilas which you can whip your next vegan Margarita.

Which Tequila is Vegan?

1. Casamigos Tequila

No doubt you will have heard of Casamigos tequila before. It’s the tequila that has taken the World by storm – created by George Clooney and bought out by Diageo for $1 billion. The great thing about Casamigo is that all their varieties of Tequila are vegan. This includes their Blanco, Reposado, and Anejo styles. Their Mezcal, a style of Tequila made from a blend of different agave plants instead of just Blue Agave, is also vegan and does not contain a worm in the bottle (something Mezcal can include believe it or not).

You can see what all the fuss is about and order yourself a bottle of Casamigos Blanco from Instacart here.

2. Teremana Tequila

Another day. Another tequila brand was launched by a celebrity. This time it isn’t just any celebrity. It is “The People’s Champion”, “The Great One”, The Rock (yes, I watch wrestling growing up), or better known to you and me today as Dwayne Johnson.

Teremana is the Tequila brand launched by Dwayne Johnson launched in 2021. This Tequila has quickly become a popular brand on the market. Best of all Teremana is vegan.

You can treat yourself to a bottle of Teremana Reposado tequila from Amazon here.

3. Ghost Tequila

If a spicy tequila or Margarita is your thing then you should try out Ghost tequila – the “perfectly spicy” tequila. Ghost tequila is 100% agave tequila which is then made spicy using a pinch of pepper heat. Yes – you read that right. Tequila that packs a punch – literally.

If you want to turn up the heat you can have a bottle of this spicy delight delivered straight to your door via Instacart here.

Vegan Tequila Brands - Jose Cuervo

4.  Jose Cuervo Tequila

It is the Tequila you are most likely to see in every grocery store and liquor store. Jose Cuervo tequila has been around since 1795 and it holds it holds the claim of the “number 1 tequila in the World” according to their website. Hence why it is probably the brand everyone is most familiar with (if it is just seeing it on the shelves). It is also a slighter lower priced Tequila on the market – especially compared to Casamigos and Tresmana.

Ever wondered what is the difference between gold and silver Jose Cuervo Tequila? Well, Silver tequila is clear, unaged Tequila. Its more neutral taste makes it the better option for mixers.

Gold Jose Cuervo Tequila is a blend of aged Reposado Tequila and younger/unaged Tequila. This type of Tequila is typically used more for shots or in cocktails due to its less harsh and slightly sweeter flavor.

Both types of Tequila Jose Cuervo Tequila Silver and Gold are vegan. However, please note that it is just Jose Cuervo tequila that has been confirmed as vegan – their margarita mix has not been confirmed as vegan.

If you would like to try a bottle of their Silver Tequila you can from Wine.com here.

5. El Jimador Tequila

El Jimador is made in the historic town of Amatitan, located in the state of Jalisco, and is the number one bestselling tequila in Mexico. It is proud to be “100% estate bottled, 100% blue agave, 100% natural”. It is also, most importantly, 100% vegan according to Barnivore.

You can get a bottle of El Jimador’s Anejo tequila delivered directly to your door via Instacart here. If full-bodied and rich tequila with deep spices if your thing then you will love this Anejo (a type of Tequila that has been aged in oak barrels for at least one year). Best used as a sipping Tequila.

6. Milagro Tequila

Milagro is a colorful tequila brand (“welcome to the brighter side of tequila“) – their words, not mine. Milagro tequila reflects “the bright, vibrant, artistic world of Mexico City.”

You can pick up a beautiful blue bottle of Milagro silver tequila from Amazon here.

Vegan Tequila Brands - 1800 Tequila

7. 1800 Tequila

1800 tequila lays claim to being the World’s most-awarded Tequila family. It is also vegan. You can see what all the fuss is about by treating yourself to a bottle of 1800 tequila from Instacart here.

Vegan Tequila Brands - Espolon

8. Espolon Tequila

Espolon Tequila is named after the iconic rooster in Mexico, a national symbol of pride. This tequila also comes in bottles with beautiful artwork which is “a spirited salute to the art of legendary José Guadalupe.”

If you want to treat yourself to a bottle of Espolon’s reposado tequila (or you just want to take a sneaky peak at the packaging because let’s face it we drink and eat with our eyes) you can from Amazon here.

9. Patron Tequila

Patron, is probably the higher-end brand any tequila drinker is familiar with. It comes in those bottles with the circle ball-shaped cap. If you are on a night out and you want to impress someone but don’t know anything about Tequila – “I’ll have a Patron, please”. In fact, whilst Patron does not claim to have invented tequila, they do claim to have “just perfected it.”

You can pick up a bottle of Patron’s perfected silver tequila from Amazon here.

10. Exotico Tequila

Exotico Tequila is another tequila brand with a beautiful label. It is 100% blue agave tequila which has been rested for 6 months for a mellow oak flavor. It is also completely vegan.

You can treat yourself to a bottle of Exotico’s reposado tequila from Instacart here.

Vegan Tequila Brands - The Final Sip

Vegan Tequila Brands – The Final Sip

Vegan Tequila Brands – in the above 10 entries I have tried to provide a wide selection of Tequilas in terms of styles and price range. If you are looking for a decent Tequila that isn’t going to break the bank for some Margaritas then go for Jose Cuervo (Silver if you want a more neutral flavor) and Gold if you want more flavor. If you want a sipping Tequila you can really sit down and enjoy then go for the Casamigos Blanco (which is perfect for sipping), and if you are out and want to look like you know something about Tequila (but don’t) just go for the tried and time-tested Patron. In any event, all of these Tequilas are vegan which is a win in itself.
